Drive Shack announced five locations in 2017 and would self-fund the transformation with $182 million in cash on hand and by selling its American Golf portfolio golf courses. The strategy was to move into golf entertainment and compete with Topgolf. Newcastle changed its name to Drive Shack and moved the business to a C-Corp. In 2017 Newcastle pivoted the American Golf business. Fortress co-founder, Wes Edens, owns the Milwaukee Bucks and sits on the Drive Shack board today. As National Golf purchased golf courses - they would lease them to American Golf. National Golf then leased its golf courses to American Golf. David Price then formed National Golf as a publicly traded real estate investment trust for the golf courses it owned. American Golf spent hundreds of millions of dollars buying country clubs. Then they shifted their business model to purchasing golf courses. Īnd in the early 1990s - American Golf managed around 80 public and private golf courses in 20 states. In the late 1980s, it was believed American Golf managed around $300 million in revenue - with earnings being about 10% of that figure. American Golf would start managing golf courses - and in turn, would split the revenue with the municipality. Price believed his business model could be applied to other golf courses - he began targeting municipal golf courses. Price found success, and the three golf courses were profitable within five years. After overcoming the initial obstacles of owning golf courses - Mr. California attorney, David Price, purchased three golf courses from his boss in the early 1970s. Yet Drive Shack can’t seem to find success. The golf industry has never been stronger. And as Drive Shack continues to build out Puttery - capital is extremely important. Why does being delisted matter? Access to capital becomes more difficult. Drive Shack’s share price dipped below $1 in September of 2022 and remained under that level until they were delisted. One of the most common is share price - a share price of under $1 for an extended period of time increases the risk of not following the standards. The company received notice its securities were not in compliance with the continued listing standards of the NYSE - and the Board opted to delist voluntarily.īeing delisted from an exchange can happen for a variety of reasons. ![]() Carbon negative means the same thing as “climate positive.”.Climate positive means that activity goes beyond achieving net-zero carbon emissions to create an environmental benefit by removing additional carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.Carbon neutral means that any CO 2 released into the atmosphere from a company's activities is balanced by an equivalent amount being removed. To start, let's deep dive into the core of carbon-neutrality: So let’s understand better what the lingo around carbon neutrality is. To verify if a company is willing to reduce or even erase their carbon footprint when they are claiming carbon-neutrality, it is vital to comprehend these terms. Read our article “How to spot greenwashing”Īccording to the targets set by the Paris Climate Agreement, there are only 29 years remaining to reach global net-zero emissions. However, communicating transparently about them may encourage businesses to be more proactive. The diversity of phrases and the lack of clarity around them can mislead well-intentioned consumers. Terms like "carbon-neutrality", "net-zero" or "climate positive" have been around for a while, but for the last couple of years, small startups to global corporations have integrated them, mainly for mainstream marketing purposes. With global giants like Google, who claims that they are the first company to eliminate its carbon legacy, we may ask: how is it possible? Nowadays, more and more companies pledge to become carbon neutral, net-zero or even climate positive. By 2030, it also wants to help more than 500 cities and local governments around the globe reduce one gigaton of carbon emissions annually, and it’s helping commercial building and data center owners use AI to reduce energy use.Carbon-neutral is the new gold. That will be the equivalent of taking more than one million cars off the road each year. The company also plans to bring five gigawatts of carbon-free energy to its key manufacturing regions by 2030. To get there, Google will pair wind and solar power sources together, increase its use of battery storage and use AI to optimize its electricity demand forecasting. If Google can pull it off, every email you send through Gmail, every route you take using Google Maps and every YouTube video you watch will be powered by clean energy. We’re also proud that by 2030, we aim to operate on 24/7 carbon-free energy in our data centers & campuses worldwide. “This is far more challenging than the traditional approach of matching energy usage with renewable energy,” Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai wrote in a blog post.Īs of today, Google is the 1st major company to eliminate our entire carbon legacy, including before we became carbon neutral in 2007. Going forward, Google says it wants to use all carbon-free energy in its data centers and campuses worldwide by 2030. Not creating emissions at all would be more ideal. While those credits support renewable energy, they only go so far. ![]() The company says it’s the first in the world to eliminate its carbon legacy.Ĭarbon offsets are credits for renewable energy that are meant to compensate for emissions made elsewhere. That includes the emissions generated before Google became carbon neutral in 2007. As of today, Google has eliminated its entire “carbon legacy.” By that, the company means it has purchased high-quality carbon offsets to match all of the emissions ever produced by its data centers and campuses. ![]() ![]() ![]() But overall V8 Supercars Australia 2 is quite an achievement, particularly as there are usually at least 21 other cars on the track and there's very little slowdown to be found in the game. The tracks are generally impressive, but some of the background stuff can look a little 2D. There are plenty of nice touches throughout the game, such as excellent real time reflections and being able to see roll bars and the driver inside the car. The cars themselves show plenty of detail, even if some of the decals are a little light on detail. Graphics are generally impressive - they're not to the level of the console versions but they're still a joy to see on a handheld system. The flip side to this, of course, is that the game forces you to become better at a wider variety of races. To proceed in the career mode, you're forced to race in all of the vehicle types, so you may find yourself stuck in a class you're not particularly good at for a while. This is one of the most frustrating bits of the game while simultaneously being one of the best. Each vehicle type has its own quirks - just because you know a track back to front with one type of car doesn't mean you can race well on the same track in a different vehicle. You'll be racing many different tracks and cars types - everything from trucks and high performance vehicles to formula racing and rally cars (there are 15 vehicle types and more than 50 tracks in the game). You're accompanied by your mechanic and agent (who appear in cutscenes after every series), and are tasked with winning races or a set amount of money in a wide range of vehicles. Just like the console versions, the career mode is a story driven piece that follows your character's rise through the driving ranks. Things are very different in the game's career mode. Players can also choose to be more hands-on with their vehicle, with the ability to change settings like suspension, ride height, tyres, brake bias and more. Graphic and sound quality have also been improved to take advantage of the processing horsepower and haptic controller feedback offered by the PlayStation 5 console.Simulator mode allows you to set a decent number of parameters, including which tracks you want to race in a series, race length, qualifiers, pit stops and grid positions. ![]() Newcomers to digital rallying can activate a revised selection of assist features to help ease into the franchise. The physics engine has also been updated, with improvements to aerodynamic and suspension simulation, which makes vehicles feel more accurate to their real-life counterparts. The sim now features 19 locations and environments - breaking out to over 120 rally stages to master - and 22 legendary and historical cars from Mitsubishi, Peugeot, Subaru, Toyota and more. WRC 10 improves over its predecessor with more cars, locations and ways to play, including a new 50th anniversary mode that celebrates and recreates great moments from World Rally Championship history dating back to its inception in 1973. With the Dirt series pushing deeper into the arcade end of the racing sim spectrum, I was glad when WRC 10 debuted to scratch my itch for rallying realism. ![]() ![]() ![]() When he isn't working on a computer or DIY project, he is most likely to be found camping, backpacking, or canoeing.
